WHY US?

Our seniors often face the harsh reality dealing with neglect and the shadows of forgetfulness and isolation. This is a challenge that Silver Years Foundation passionately addresses. Unlike the numerous foundations for kids, women, and families, there are few dedicated to the often overlooked elderly population whom are still living but falling through the cracks. They're often left alone, wondering when or if their next visitor will come or how they'll get a ride to a doctors appointment. Our non- profit strives to be the much-needed glimmer of hope, offering essential services to lift their spirits. Your donation ensures that their last chapter isn't written in solitude but is filled with care and compassion.

OUR MISSION

We are dedicated to providing companionship to the elderly who are feeling alone, unnoticed, unheard, and forgotten. We believe in a world where no one should feel forgotten. Through our compassionate approach, we aim to bring warmth and joy into the lives of seniors, fostering meaningful connections and uplifting their spirits. In addition to our companionship services, we offer assistance with daily tasks, access to a supportive hotline for immediate emotional support, and engaging activities designed to promote social interaction and mental stimulation. Our mission is to ensure that every elderly individual feels valued, cherished, and connected to a caring community.

_______ ABOUT _______

In a world filled with organizations dedicated to children and families in need, there's a group of unsung individuals who often find themselves forgotten—our beloved seniors. In the depths of their silver years, they might spend months on end, isolated, with nothing but their memories to keep them company. These are the individuals whom we, at the Silver Years Foundation, vow to reach out to, to listen, to brighten, and to give back to in their time of need.

My journey with the Silver Years Foundation began as a nursing student, but the roots of my passion reach back much further, nurtured by the love and care I received from my own grandparents. It was during my rotations at an assisted living home that my heart truly broke, and I knew that I needed to be a part of the change. You see, many elderly individuals in these homes spend their final years in solitude and some in sadness as they are in a confusing time in their lives. They yearn for companionship, a friendly face, a listening ear, and the simple pleasures that life has to offer.

Sitting on the couch one day, sharing my experiences with my husband, the idea for the Silver Years Foundation was born. Countless nights we spent bouncing back ideas, fueled by our passion for making a difference in the lives of the often-forgotten elderly. Imagine all the lonely individuals we can help, many of them our own veterans who served our nation back to the 1950s. These incredible individuals have seen and experienced so much throughout their lives. They deserve better than spending their final days with no interactions, no smiles, and no laughter. Our foundation is a product of heartfelt conversations, fueled by the commitment to bring light into the lives of those who've given so much to us.

I vividly remember being called an angel by one resident on a day when I sat with them, simply listening to their stories. It had been over a year since they had had a meaningful conversation. For some, it had even been 7 months since they'd last seen the outside world. So, I decided to take them on a stroll, allowing them to feel the fresh air on their faces and the wind running through their hair once more. That moment changed everything. Silver Years Foundation is our promise to these seniors. We're here to light up their lives.

Our mission extends beyond the walls of assisted living homes. We are committed to reaching out to seniors who are navigating life independently but face challenges. Whether it's arranging transportation to medical appointments, assisting with grocery shopping, or providing support with daily tasks like cooking, we are dedicated to bridging the gaps in care. Our goal is simple: to be the unwavering solution for every senior in need, ensuring no one falls through the cracks.

How you can make an impact?

  • Nearly 750,000 elderly americans are spending their later years in assisted living facilities

  • Each dawn brings another day of emptiness for seniors confined to their solitary existence, their once vibrant spirits dimmed by the relentless passage of time and the absence of meaningful engagement.

  • Feeling forgotten, unwanted and alone, without any family visits.

Numerous seniors find themselves relocated to assisted living facilities, where their lives often feel diminished. Despite their age, they still have much life left to experience. We may sometimes forget but, this is their first time living as well, they crave the opportunity to continue living fully, to cherish experiences, and to connect with family during birthdays, dinners, and other gatherings. Sadly, a significant portion of them end up feeling isolated, forgotten, and disengaged from life upon entering these facilities. Many go without visitors, gifts, or even someone to share conversations with, leaving them longing for companionship and connection.

Furthermore, current issues exacerbate the isolation faced by seniors in assisted living facilities. Lack of resources, limited staff, and the demands of daily operations often leave residents feeling neglected and disconnected from the world outside. Despite these challenges, small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in their lives. Take, for instance, the story of a lady with dementia who receives no visitors because her family assumes she won't remember. Determined to brighten her days, I started weekly visits. Initially, she was calm and reserved, but with each subsequent visit, her demeanor transformed. From a tentative smile to genuine laughter, our interactions became moments of joy for both of us. Though she may not know who I am, she has always recognized me, the warmth in her eyes and the affection in her gestures speak volumes, her eyes light up when she sees me and asks me where I've been hiding.  In a place where loneliness looms large, these simple gestures of companionship can bring immeasurable comfort and happiness.

Many seniors have confided in me, sharing their emotions and experiences in heartfelt conversations. One elderly gentleman expressed gratitude, revealing that I was the first person in months to engage in a meaningful dialogue with him. Another, fondly referred to as my "little fashionista," lamented how, in her older age, she no longer receives invitations to galas or dinners. She reminisced about the days when family and friends would gather at her home, but now, those visits have become scarce, leaving her feeling isolated and yearning for connection.

At the Silver Years Foundation, my mission is to bridge the gap caused by understaffing and the absence of visits from family and friends for our beloved seniors. I dedicate my time to companionship, organizing events and gatherings, and ensuring that no special occasion goes unnoticed by remembering birthdays and distributing thoughtful gifts just to let them know they're on our minds. Many of them express simple desires like candy, books, cardigans, and everyday essentials, and I make it a priority to fulfill these requests during my next visit.

This is where I need your help! I can’t do it alone, to continue our mission and expand our impact, we are reaching out to generous individuals and organizations like yours for support. Your monetary donations will enable us to enhance the quality of life for our seniors. Every day is a new beginning, regardless of age, this is their first time living as well. Our seniors are still writing their stories, still savoring life's moments. Yet, why do we confine them to the confines of assisted living facilities, treating them as if their best days are behind them? It's time we recognize that it's not just about caring for them; it's about empowering them to continue living with dignity, independence, and purpose. Let's break free from the notion that aging equals captivity and instead embrace the reality that every day is a fresh opportunity for our seniors to experience joy, companionship and purpose.
